Description

1968 Morris Mini Cooper ‘S’ Mark II (1275cc)

Snowberry White with Black Roof
Build Date: 28th November 1968
Date of Registration: 1st January 1969
Registration: KTH 680G issued in Carmarthenshire Wales

This Morris Cooper ‘S’ was first owned by Martin Brake for 30 years
and spent most of its life in Llanelli, Wales. In 1998 it was sold to Ermanno Passerini who bought it with the intension of carrying out a full nut & bolt restoration. In 2004 Ermanno purchased a Mk1 Morris Cooper ‘S’ GHW 353D and sold KTH 680G to Mr John Wainwright.

In 2004/2005 this car completely restored by the late Dave Gilbert and his daughter Natalie. Dave was a very respected engineer who owned 3 ex-works Cooper ‘S’ rally cars namely, 8 EMO, GRX 555D, and GRX 310D. Dave Gilbert was also the founder of the ex-works Abingdon minis register and therefore a world expert in BMC competition department cars.

This Morris Cooper ‘S’ was restored to a very high standard. Correct in detail and finished in its original colours of Snowberry White with Black roof and interior. The full rebuild is supported by invoices, photographs, letters, Heritage Certificate, Original Hand books and brown envelope, making a comprehensive history file. Period features include 4.5J wheels, reclining front seats, rev-counter and Maserati air-horns.

This Mini was then purchased in April 2009 by Mr Alan Lyons, Crossgar, Northern Ireland, from Thornfalcon Garage, Taunton, Somerset. The Mini was in Alan’s ownership until February 2022. In July 2009 the engine & transmission was completely rebuilt by BMC Mini Cooper ‘S’ specialist Elgin Greer who found the engine and mechanics to be in superb condition. The engine was found to be 1293cc with standard steel ‘S’ crankshaft. The 296 Kent Full Race Camshaft was replaced with a Kent 266 Fast Road Billet Camshaft to make the car more road useable. In 2018 MED Straight Cut Drop Gear set was added.

The Mini won best in class ‘Mini Mk2 Cooper and Cooper ‘S’’ at the recent Causeway Coast Mini Club Show in Portrush in August 2022
