1929 Fire Engine – Merryweather Albion

Base vehicle is Albion LB41 built in Scotland in Nov 1929. Fitted out by Merryweather, London and supplied new to RDS, Dublin in 1930. Sold on to Wexford Corporation Fire Service 1935 and registered for public road for the first time (1935 Wexford MI registration). Main fire appliance for Wexford town and surrounding area until 1954. First fire appliance in Ireland to attend an air raid (Campile 1940). In use as reserve fire appliance in Wexford until 1963 and then stored. Sold by Wexford Corporation to present owner’s father in 1929. Extensively restored in mid 1980’s and has had a movie career.

4 cylinder Albion EN35B engine, 2.8 litre petrol, 20/36hp. 3 cylinder 2 stage Merryweather Hatfield fire pump, 250 gallons per minute. 33ft Ajax ladder (not original), bell from 1930s Dennis, headlights off 1930s Austin. Otherwise complete and original. Exhaust manifold has a crack, otherwise all in working order. Spare magneto (both magnetos professionally rebuilt in UK approx 10 years ago).
